Scored against accidents where the wreckage was actually found

Every case below is re-run through the same Monte Carlo engine the platform uses live, seeded and deterministic. The model receives only what searchers held at the time — last known flight state, ambient winds, surface current, water depth. The confirmed recovery position is withheld from the model and used solely to score the result.

5 seeds × 9 cases

Re-runs every benchmark across a fixed seed sweep and emits a canonical, hash-bound JSON artefact: full inputs, engine configuration, per-seed solutions, error, containment and search area, plus seed-sensitivity of each solution point. The SHA-256 digest is computed over the canonical body with the generation timestamp excluded, so an auditor who re-runs the same pack version must reproduce the identical digest byte-for-byte.

How to read this — and what it does not claim

  • Containment is the smallest probability circle around the solution that would have contained the wreckage. Below 90% means a fleet sweeping the engine's 90% zone would have found it.
  • A miss is reported as a miss. Results are not tuned per case; every run uses identical model settings and one shared seed.
  • Reference positions are rounded figures from published official reports, so errors of a kilometre or two are inherent to the benchmark, not the engine.
  • These runs use single-fix priors with coarse climatological winds and currents. A live case with a full ADS-B track, ERA5 reanalysis and logged negative sweeps constrains the field considerably harder than what is shown here.
  • This is decision support for search planning. It does not determine probable cause and is not a substitute for the investigating authority's findings.
